GUEST POETRY CURATOR august – september 2015: pete stones
Pete Stones will be the third ‘Guest Poetry Curator’ on our ever-growing Poets’ Corner. Pete will be reviewing and publishing work of showcased poets and will curate the first ever Poets’ Corner ‘Open Call’ during the month of September!
Pete Stones is based in Yorkshire and is passionate about poetry that inspires change on a wider level. Pete: ‘My poetry writing began during my undergraduate degree in reaction to the texts I was studying. The concision, the power, and the genuinely belief that five words were more capable of changing the world than five thousand spoke to me. Since that time I have tried to replicate that for a modern audience; with successes in Forward Poetry Anthologies, and the recent Elixir Poetry Competition. For me, poetry must come from the soul of the poet but speak to the wider world. It must seek to challenge, to explore, and most importantly it must approach the world with a genuine desire to improve it. They need not be specifically political or religious, but must speak to the major themes of our contemporary society.
I currently work for Arts Council England helping to fund Art and Cultural activity to enrich and better the lives of millions, and I want to see poets who genuinely believe what they do has the power to help people, to tell their stories.’
Pete’s curator-ship will last two months over August and September 2015. Find out more about the ‘Open Call’ Pete has written here: https://leavenerspoetscorner.wordpress.com/2015/07/24/open-call-poetry-submissions-displacement/ Get in contact with him through firstname.lastname@example.org
